Seeking Applicants for Open Position: Township Fire Chief

Clearwater Township is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Township Fire Chief. Applications will be accepted through June 1st, 2021. Constable Advisory Committee Meeting Notice

There will be an organizational meeting of the Clearwater Township Constable Advisory Committee on Wednesday, May 19th, at 6 pm in the Community Center. Any resident interested in participating in the research concerning the ramifications of establishing the official office of Township Constable may attend.


Township Planning Commission Announcement

Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) Public Hearing

A public hearing of the Clearwater Township ZBA is specially scheduled on May 4, 2021, 7 p.m., at the Red School House, 5407 River St., Rapid City, MI. Clearwater Township Advisory Committee Notice

Clearwater Township is forming an advisory committee to consider the feasibility of creating the office of Township Constable. Volunteers to assist and provide input in researching State law, Township requirements, and costs/benefits for this position are asked to contact Supervisor Tom Backers by phone at 231-709-0474, or by email at supervisor@clearwatertwp.com. This is the first step in a long process, and the committee will be disbanded upon presenting its report to the Township Board. No law enforcement experience is required but would be appreciated, and any resident of Clearwater may participate.


Township Board 2021 Budget

Freedom Park Work-Bee

The Freedom Park Work-Bee is Saturday, May 15th, from 9 am to 4 pm. The Township is seeking volunteers to assist with repairs and improvements around the park including picking up trash, trail maintenance, brush removal, sanding, painting, fence repairs, spreading wood chips, and more. Please bring gloves, shovels, wheelbarrows, chainsaws, limb loppers, trash bags, sanders and sandpaper, paint brushes and rollers, extension grabbers, etc. The Township is also seeking donations of wood chips, lumber for repairs, and food for the meal. Lunch will be provided. Residents who wish to help with labor, equipment, or donations can contact the Clerk at Clerk@clearwatertwp.com, or call 231-331-6249.

Clearwater Township Cleanup Day Volunteers/Requests for Assistance

Clearwater Township Cleanup Day is Saturday, May 1st, from 7 am to 12 noon. The Township is seeking volunteers to assist elderly and physically limited residents clean up and transport disposable materials. Residents who wish to help with labor or equipment to haul materials to the transfer station can contact the Clerk at Clerk@clearwatertwp.com, or call 231-331-4734.

Residents legitimately in need of assistance contact the Clerk at the above for an appointment to survey the necessary effort involved. Due to limited access to the waste facility, verified hardship cases will be made on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be limited in number. The successful organization and execution of this program may lead to a repeat of the process in the fall.


Clean-Up Day

Clean-up Day is Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 7:00 AM until 12 noon.  Residents may take their trash items to the American Waste Transfer Station located at 3947 US 131 North.

Residents may bring one pickup load (4’x8’x4’) per household.

For Proof of Residency bring your last property tax statement or current utility bill. Items brought from another township will be subject to a penalty fee and could result in loss of privileges in future cleanups.

Acceptable Items:  Household rubbish, building materials (maximum 6’), household furniture (including chairs, couches, mattresses), appliances, refrigerators that are tagged “Freon Free” and scrap metal.

Items Not Accepted:  car tires, car batteries, cans of paint, rocks, chunks of concrete, asphalt, brush, yard waste, and all hazardous waste such as chemicals, herbicides, and insecticides.

DO NOT BRING ANYTHING TO SITE BEFORE MAY 1, 2021 AT 7:00 A.M.


Election Commission Meeting

The Election Commission will hold a public meeting on April 12, 2021 at 2pm in the Township Hall to appoint Election Inspectors for the May 4, 2021 election.


Public Accuracy Test

A Public Accuracy Test of the voting tabulator will be held on April 20, 2021 at 11:45am at the Township Hall.


Township Board Annual Meeting of Electors

The Clearwater Township Board met on March 27, 2021 at 10 am at the Township Hall for the purpose of holding the Annual Meeting of Electors. Virtual and personal participation was available.

2020 Property Taxes Announcement

As of March 3, 2021, 2020 Summer and Winter property taxes must be paid to Kalkaska County.  For additional information on the website, see Property Tax Information.  


Kalkaska Public Library Announcement

The Kalkaska Public Library will be at the Clearwater Township Hall at 5440 River St., Rapid City, MI, on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 9A to 12N starting on September 11, 2019.  A selection of library books is available to check out as well as help with basic computer skills. Secure book returns can also be made at the Township Hall.  Canceled until further notice.
